How aware are we of unrecorded memories? History has always been written by those in power. Let's imagine that in our society, unrecorded stories clump together at an invisible distance away from collective memory and finally form a mass of obscurity. The forgotten assembly watches over us, even those who refuse to witness them. They ask us: Can you truly not see me, or are you pretending to?

The Korean War is cited as having the most civilian casualties, over 300,000, in the shortest period of time of any single war. The Korean War has been deliberately framed as an inevitable circumstance of the times. Todays' younger generation, who has been living in a safe space completely removed from war, is having trouble connecting with non-experienced memories of a past that existed in a multi-layered context of the war. The project 'Round, Convex, them.' is an effort to view memories which missed a chance to be re-envisioned and re-examined in a new perspective. It aims to invite unrecorded memories into a virtual space and explore gaps of uncertainty in a segmented collective remembrance.

우리는 기록되지 못한 기억에 대해 얼마나 알고 있을까? 기록은 권력에서 비롯된다. 우리 사회에서 기록되지 못한 기억들의 집합체는 보이지 않는 저 먼 곳에서 뭉치고 뭉쳐 큰 덩어리를 만들어낸다. 그 덩어리는 목격하기를 거부하는 우리의 주변을 에워싸 우리를 지켜본다. 덩어리는 이렇게 말한다. 정말 내가 보이지 않나요, 아니면 그런 척 하는건가요? 기억되지 못한 것을 기억하려는 행위는 부자연스러운 노력이며, 망각에 대한 투쟁이다.

한국전쟁은 단일 전쟁으로는 가장 짧은 시간동안 가장 많은 민간인 희생자를 낸 전쟁이다. 한국전쟁을 바라보는 우리의 시선은 비롯된 어쩔 수 없는 시대적 비극이라는 큰 틀에서 전승되어 왔으며, 그 과정에서 보통사람들의 인권, 자유, 가족과 이웃 등의 가치들은 별다른 담론을 이끌어내지 못하고 있다. 특히, 전쟁 트라우마로부터 완벽히 격리된 무균실에서 삶을 지속해온 우리 젊은 세대는 승리의 역사로 기록되어온 주류의 담론에서 벗어나, 겪지 않은 경험을 이해해야 한다. 이 프로젝트는 예술가가 기록되지 않은 역사의 틈새를 적극적으로 헤집고, 탐험하며, 재가공하는 과정을 통해 과거에 지속적인 현재성을 부여한다. '둥글고 볼록하게 맺힌 것'은 분절된 역사에 방치된 기억의 틈새에서 살아가는 잊혀진 희생자들을 현실 공간으로 끌어오기 위해 기획되었으며, 기억되지 못한 역사의 빈틈을 현 세대가 어떤 방식으로 인지하고 공유할 것인지에 대한 질문을 던진다.
